Google Business Profile Optimization Checklist for 2026

Jan 31, 2026

Your Google Business Profile is your most valuable local marketing asset. This checklist covers every optimization step to maximize your visibility in local search results.

Profile basics — get these right or nothing else matters

Verify ownership, lock down your NAP, set accurate hours including holidays, pick the right primary category, and add every relevant secondary category. These are foundation — fix them before anything else.

Photos and video are ranking factors

Upload at least 10 real photos of your team, your work, your office, and your products. Add a 30-second intro video. Refresh monthly — Google rewards active profiles.

Services and products lists

Add every service you offer with a short description and price range. This is one of the most underused fields and it directly affects which searches you appear for.

Posts every week

Use Google Posts to share updates, offers, and events. They appear in your profile and signal to Google that the business is active. One post per week is the minimum baseline.

Q&A — own the conversation

Pre-populate your Q&A with the questions customers actually ask. If you don't, your competitors or random users will — and the answers will rank inside your profile.

Reviews and responses

Ask every happy customer. Respond to every review within 48 hours — yes, even the bad ones, especially the bad ones. Google's algorithm rewards engagement and customers trust businesses that respond.

Final checklist

Run through this every 90 days: NAP consistency, primary category, services list, photos updated, posts active, reviews responded to, Q&A maintained, holiday hours set, attributes accurate. Treat your profile like a living asset.
